Synergybound

A true roguelike minigame

Synergybound is a Minecraft-made, fully original roguelike minigame strongly inspired by The Binding of Isaac: Repentance

As indicated in its name, the core concept of Synergybound is to build synergies/combos using the random items (called relics) that appear during your run or that you can buy, there are no limits on the amount of relics you can have. At every run, you both have to adapt to the random stuff you get and make careful choices on how to make the perfect build. This map can be played solo, duo or more (duo is the best experience in my opinion).

I’m using Minecraft as a game engine, my goal is to make a unique system and something that feels like a game on its own.

For now, there’s only the Arena gamemode, where you fight through random waves of enemies with 3 arenas available, the Dungeon mode might come later.

100+ items

The game right now has 106 unique relics, they all give different stats (such as damage, movement speed, a special “magic” system etc) and most of them have additional special effects that can go from simple (conditional additional stats) to very complex (electricity spewing from enemies).

The relics have been precisely designed to implicitely interact with eachother in many different ways, in fact, they are also self-compatible, some special effects are hard-coded in case you get multiple copies !

You can choose to build your run around melee, ranged, shield, freezing, magic, economy, tanky health or more specific combos between items !

Enemies to challenge your builds

Enemies in this map are not just varied for the sake of being varied, I designed them in a way so that they all challenge your buid in a different way. For example :

  • The Runner (dashing special attack) to force you to use your shield.
  • The Beast is a sack of HP to stress-test your damage potential.
  • The Evader (teleports away from you when damaged) forces you to navigate around the arena.
  • The Egg (does nothing, hatches into Silverfish if not destroyed quick enough) forces you to avoid the other enmies so you can focus on it.

What’s coming next

Synergybound right now is an entry to a mapmaker megacollab project called Skylands, basically, it’s a map inside another map.

Currently, the map is being worked on to have its own standalone release.
